In an industry that demands so much from its equipment, it is rare to find equipment that lasts this long and virtually impossible to find equipment that is supported so well.

Recently, Morbark had a customer with an old Model 550 who was trying to “make a go of it” in the chipping business. (A model 550 is an 18" chipper that evolved into our current Model 20 Chiparvestor.)  The customer’s machine went down and  a drive shaft was needed to get it back up and running. Because Morbark hasn’t manufactured or sold a 550 in many years the part no longer existed.

We first spoke with a couple of Morbark’s “seasoned veterans” to see what information we could gather about this particular machine.

Next, the old part was sent to our machine shop where they took measurements and, with their comprehensive experience, fabricated a new drive shaft by combining a portion of the existing part along with another part we had in stock. The customer was up and running the next day.  The customer called to thank Morbark and to let us know his machine was running smoother because of the quality part fabricated by the machine shop.
